THE STORY BEHIND OUR NAME

Why a white elephant?

The legend of Pulukisi, and why we carry his name.

Pulukisi, the white elephant of Kathmandu’s Indra Jatra festival

01. THE LEGEND

A symbol from the heart of Kathmandu

In Nepal’s Newar tradition, Pulukisi is the white elephant who appears each year during Indra Jatra, one of Kathmandu’s oldest and most joyful festivals.

Moving to the beat of traditional drums, Pulukisi winds through the courtyards and narrow alleys of the old city while families gather to watch. Across Nepal and the Himalayas, the white elephant has long stood for purity, strength and good fortune.

“Gentle, steady and strong, carrying tradition forward.”

02. THE FESTIVAL

Kathmandu celebrates

Every year, Indra Jatra fills Kathmandu with music, masked dances and celebration. Pulukisi’s appearance is a favorite moment: a living link between old traditions and the community that keeps them alive.

03. OUR NAME

Why we chose it

To us, Pulukisi stands for what we hope our sound tools bring into your life: steadiness, devotion and good fortune.

Our singing bowls and tingsha are handmade in Nepal. When you strike a bowl and let its tone fill the room, we hope it brings a little of that calm and good fortune into your home.
